Going to data capped broadband

Years ago i still remember on being on 56k modem and the pains of that, slow speeds, that annoying noise, using a long cable to connect to phone line and keeping track of how long i was on it to keep the costs down. But then in about 2006 we got broadband and it was a joyous experience, while it was not the fastest  it was leaps and bounds ahead of 56k and finally i could use steam and play half life 2.

Now cut to last year where i was living we had super fast broadband and the online connection had became part of the way of life streaming vids/playing games/facebook etc it just became you did not notice it any more as it became part of daily life.

This year it all changed we had to move and the only thing we could get are those mobile 4g devices with data caps ...if you sign up to contracts you could get a 60gb monthly allowance but i had to go for 30gb monthly and you can pay extra for more if you need to such as 15 euro for a 15gb booster.

I am sure for a non heavy internet user 30gb may be enough but i had to be really careful as i could use a massive chunk of that without realizing and that is due to auto updates.

So we have two desktop computers and a laptop ,xbox one/ps4/wii u/vita and since there was a big gap between moving and getting the broadband as soon as they connected they would update Steam for the pc was the biggest with 20+ games wanting to update and of course origin as well as windows update to. I had to go through everything on all the systems to set auto updates to off.

Streaming video and watching youtube took more of my download allowance then i would have expected so had to limit what i could watch and set the quality to low to save some of that allowance.

My issue is with all this is i feel there should be greater allowances or even unlimited, comparing all the providers they seem to stick with same sort of pricing and allowances and if you go over the allowance the cost is really obscene and the better deals require very long contracts.

But i think the real sting is the 4G. It is really really fast far faster then the landline broadband we had last year but the problem is you cannot download that much. In the end i really hope things improve in the future as the technology is amazing.
