Games companies and gaming/tech websites that prioritize usa/japan over the rest of the world

So to start with nintendo stopped there coins but to give a incentive they added some really great stuff to there catalogue. However in europe the equivalent stars we got nothing

And would often see discounts for games in the usa and not in europe.

But i think what does often irks me is you will often see on some of the big gaming/Tech sites they will often run competitions and it would be for usa only.

Now i understand posting stuff can be expensive and there may be other issues but they have to realize people who look at there sites are world wide and they really need to do something for those fans and it really makes me happy when some do.

I think with the main companies like nintendo/sony and microsoft they really need to treat the whole world as there region with digital it should be that much easier

If you can wait buy games at discount

Over the past few years something has been happening a lot and its infuriating.. You buy a game (usually digital) and then within a month the same game is discounted.

And for me recently i decided to save a bit of money by going for a years gold membership and what was announced today....price cut for xbox gold.

And its happened with so many games now thing is for me dunno if i am just unlucky but seems to happen within a week of me buying a game.

And i preordered under night in birth and its on its way but it got a digital discount BEFORE THE GAME WAS RELEASED.

In the end if think they should do something for people who bought the game within a certain period of buying.

next gen consoles old gen experience

So you just got that new console and you check on the online stores and you come across games that you think does not look very next gen

Now do not get me wrong these games are still fun but there is a nagging feeling in the back of my mind that thinks if i spent this much money on a next gen console to be presented with games that could have been done last gen or even before that i would feel a bit downhearted.

Of course if these consoles were literally swimming in next gen games i probably would not be as critical after all some of the indie games like shovel knight are fantastic and they make for a good option.

I guess my bigger complaint was not making the Xbox one and ps4 backward compatible though i can guess several reasons why first it would be cheaper to make the console secondly and probably the most likely is they want to sell you the games later on.

In the end it is all about choice and giving you the balance of new and old

Does the length of a game matter ?

There was a lot talking about The Order: 1886 game length and i thought i would weigh  in with my two cents.

So it seems to be between 5 and 7 hours long ( though as of writing this have no idea how much cutscenes takes up) but in the end does it matter ?

So i will talk about games at the opposite end of each spectrum first Dragons age : Inquistion i have put in over 60hrs so far now while there can be a lot of filler wandering from one place to the other content wise it has a lot and of a high quality with so many characters choices and stuff to find so replaying will be likely. It is a 60$ game and i got my moneys worth.

Then you have a game like ikaruga which can be completed in about 30 min but it only costs about a tenner on steam and it has a hook so you are encouraged to play through many times to get better and i love a good scoring hook so i got my moneys worth.

Now a 7 hour game i think is not to bad but if i was paying for it i would want it to be good and have replayability if i bought a game that i would only play through once there is noway i would want to pay full price for that when i could just rent it. If you get the gameplay mechanics just right you would always go back.

Take bayonetta 2 as a example the combat is so good that i will always go back for a play but the fact you get ranked there are plenty of secrets are just icing on the cake.

So in the end length does matter to a degree if it is short they have to make sure it gives you the value for money

innovative or tried and tested ?

Often you will see games that take the innovative approach or using a tried and tested formula.

Now with a tried and tested you know it works and it is safe but the issue with that is to many times and people will burn out and eventually it will go down hill.

With the innovation you get something new and fresh the draw back is though most publishers would rarely want to risk a large amount of money

I think with tried and tested you can continue making games as there are plenty of game types that i really think have so much potential for example dynasty warriors series i enjoy them but in my mind i can really see so much more with epic total war style campaigns and bayonetta style combat.

Or you can have a bit of a blend for example Middle earth shadow of mordor while most of it was tried and tested the nemesis system was the innovation it needed to make it stand out.

In the end even a little bit of innovation can elevate a generic game and i do think publisher really do need to take more risks

Are paper game guides dead ?

Many years ago i used to collect game guides i still have a few such as my killer instinct gold guide but now days i do not bother.

The issue is now that with the updating of games the games can change a lot especially with fighting games i remember watching on youtube panel with some people who worked on the injustice game guide and comparing the game at launch to what it is now. While a lot of the game guide can still be of use there will be some that is no use.

It is not only with fighting games games like destiny which are changing rapidly and of course addon packs being released.

Now to resolve that often you can get a Eguide to download on its own or bought with the physical book itself.

With that though you can often get countless guides online sites like ign or gamefaqs do a decent enough job to  make a eguide useless.

In the end what i think they need to do is to add a bit of extra value to the guides while official art is nice for me its not a must buy i would like to see a dvd video guide interviews and making of the game and that i would love to see.

My experience with g-sync

So have been using a g-sync monitor for over a month now and i thought i would give my opinions the monitor i am using is a aoc g2460pg.

Before i get into the g-sync part my opinions on the monitor are it is ok but nothing special sure it does 144hz and 3d vision but picture quality i was really expecting a lot more.I was using a old 720p monitor and to be honest i cannot really say the picture is that much better though i guess that is really the limits of tn panel also another irk is that it only uses a display port i know that is because of the g-sync module but still it would have been really nice to have a dvi or hdmi.

So i have always been annoyed by screen tearing so was really looking forward to the g-sync when running games at 144hz without g-sync on there is screen tearing with g-sync it does work reduces tearing and stuttering and makes for a smoother experience however i would say it really helps more for games running at lower frame rates such as between 40 and 60fps.

In the end it works but really am not sure it is worth the price premium i would recommend just waiting for free sync and how that pans out

Release a early access or paid beta ? then prepare to have your game rated

So early access/paid betas have been out for a while and there seems to be several schools of thought on if they can and should be rated as they are  a early version.

And i must say for me there should be ratings because first you pay money and even if it is a early version you need to know if there is potential there or if the game is just so bad it has no chance

But also there are many people (and i am one) who would only really jump into a early access game if the quality is up to a certain level. For me there would be nothing worse then paying for a game and the development gets cancelled or if it never updates and there i am i have spent money on a rubbish game.

If i know the game is at a certain level then at least i can get my moneys worth of enjoyment.

Of course if the early access or early version is run by a good team for the player there is nothing more rewarding then seeing your feedback actually go into the game. Project nimbus and beasts fury are the two that spring to mind.

In the end it is always a risk and i feel that they need to have the early versions judged

Internet related things that irk me

When you loaded up a webpage just to read and some video starts playing and you have no idea where it is coming from.

Browsing internet on a mobile phone you see something you want to click ...you click on it and at that exact moment it decides to shift the screen a bit due to a pic or something.

Often you may have a website that has a top 10 or 50 list and they insist on having each item on there own page rather then putting them all on one page.

Captcha ....they are so annoying can you type out these things you cannot read
